OUTSTANDING CAMPS
In May of this year, the 4th Annual
Manos Olympics Camp was held
at the farming village of Zhuang
Tou in China. This two-day event
was kicked off with the Manos
Torch Run, and brought the school
year to a close with every child
competing in teams representing
the four countries studied during
the program year: Canada,
Thailand, Jamaica and Egypt.
WORLD TORCH RUN
Manos Internacional first held a torch
run during the Olympics Camp in
China, May 2008. That summer
volunteers in our Teaching Abroad
Program participated in what would
be the first ever Manos World Torch
Run. From there, the torch journeyed
to the United States, to Vietnam, to
Mexico, and then back to China.
Over the course of a year, the Manos
Olympics Torch passed through the
hands of every child and volunteer at
Manos program sites, symbolic of
our unity and of our mission to unite
the world through the sharing of
cultures, ideas, and education.

VOLUNTEERS ABROAD
The cultural exchange never ends at Manos sites. That's why we
are able to bring the world to the children of poor and remote areas.
MEXICO
Volunteers from
China, Coco Gao and
Shirley Yang visited
the United States
and Mexico earlier
this year. At the same
time, Linda Ehman, a
great helping hand
from Canada, also
visited us. Volunteers
from California and
these volunteers
from abroad, were able to host a three-day cultural camp January
23-26th! The children of Manos Mexico participated in arts and crafts,
games, and cultural activities about Canada and China. They enjoyed
Chinese and Canadian food, music, dance, and had unforgettable
experiences making friends with our volunteers from abroad.
In April, joining our base of
volunteers, Ozzie Martinez from
Florida was welcomed in Mexico
by the children and local
volunteers Cecilia Lopez and
Zenaido Moreno. The Children
in Mexico shared what they had
learned from their cultural camp
and activities by putting on a
welcoming performance.

you soon" always helps us smile as we look ahead.
educational sponsorships through Manos Internacional; they also
organized the first ever Olympics Torch run in Vietnam. The children
of this remote area had never experienced anything like this. Manos
volunteers are looking forward to the first ever Olympics Camp in
Vietnam in 2010! Plans are underway! Click here to learn more
about our Educational Sponsorships Program.
In Mexico, children experienced
their first ever Manos Olympics
Camp this year. Children on the
mountain outskirts of the Tecate
border town enjoyed competing in
events like dodge ball, hockey, cup
stacking, and a "mental" Olympics
where they played “jeopardy" on
the four countries studied during
the program year: Canada, China,
Jamaica and Egypt.
Every child had the opportunity for
gold, silver and bronze medals;
and the name of the winning
teams are engraved on the Manos
Olympics Gold Cup at the two
sites. Team Canada won in
China, and Team Jamaica won in
Mexico. Click here to view Photos

2008-2009 year with pen-friends around the world. Sister
classrooms and participants shared video presentations and gifts,
and shared summer goodbyes.
This program continues to embody the Manos Mission, as friends
across the globe are not only writing about themselves, but they are
educating each other about their cultures, country, and history
through letters, videos and much more. Click here to see our IF
Calendar for the 2009-2010 school year.
The IF Program now serves over 1,000 children. More and more
children and teachers are participating in the exchange of letters,
gifts, and culture. Working with schools in the United States and
around the world, the IF Program serves as a pen-friends and
cultural exchange program. If you would like more information
please send an email to the IF Program Coordinator, Shirley Yang at
