THE CULTURAL EXCHANGE:
Volunteers Journey to Manos
Sites Worldwide
In February, Blake Estape and Cynthia Gou
both long-time volunteers from China, took a
southbound trek to Vietnam to meet up with
Manos volunteers Belinda Wells and Sally
Hayes, who were travelling from California to
the Manos Vietnam site. It was Cynthia's first
trip abroad from her Chinese homeland. They
all convened at Xuan Thanh village where the
Manos Area Captain, Trang Le guided them in
visiting the children whose education is
sponsored through Manos. >Click here to read

At the same time, Shirley Yang, Manos

States and Mexico, where she visited
Manos sites, participated in program
activities, and shared a special Chinese
Cultural Day with the children of Manos
Mexico.
Manos Mexico also enjoyed a visit from
long time Manos supporter, Melinda Ruby,
pictured at left with students in Mexico.
Melinda has been a monthly donor and
continues to lend a hand to Manos in every
way she can. Manos always welcomes
visits and will always be happy to share
Manos in action with those interested.

In March, Manos' Volunteer President,
John Alvarez, visited China and
witnessed the great team of volunteers in
action at two remote villages, including the
newly added Ping Shan village in the
remote scenic mountains of Northern
Hebei province. >click here to read John's

This was their 3rd Annual Olympics Camp, but it was one
with many firsts, including the first torch relay through
village paths and roads. Eight Chinese teens, who have
participated in Manos programs since 2005, were torch
bearers in this event, made especially meaningful by the
upcoming the 2008 Olympics hosted by China.
The students formed teams competing as 4 countries:
Vietnam, Colombia, Kenya, and India. They competed in
such events as the three-legged race, peanut eating
competitions, short & long-distance running, and
tug-o-war. All teams competed with great sportsmanship
and with true Olympian spirit for the champion cup. The
event had opening and closing ceremonies and there
were enough competitions to ensure that every child
received gold, silver or bronze medals. As teams
cheered each other on,in the end the Kenya team came
out on top. >click here for a short slide show.
